Meer informatie over jouw initiatief / More info about your initiative
We are RISE, a student team from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Twente. We work on problems in the space sector that need changing to sustain human activity in space by engaging STEM students in multidisciplinary projects. The lead project of the team of 45 students is to achieve the world’s first landing of a biofuelled-powered rocket.
Wat is er anders/nieuw aan jouw idee/oplossing t.o.v. bestaande oplossingen? / What is different/new about your idea/solution compared to existing solutions??
The landing capabilities of RISE’s flagship rocket Alpha allow for reusability of the vehicle which is not yet achieved by students. The in-house designed and manufactured Green Phoenix hybrid engine will power the Alpha rocket to an altitude of 3 km and will be the first engine ever to land a rocket with green fuel.
Wat zijn jouw volgende stappen om het verder te ontwikkelen? / What are your next steps to develop the initiative?
The team has recently demonstrated the flight capabilities of a reliable airframe and recovery system which will be used to test control systems. The control surfaces are needed to steer the rocket to its modelled flight trajectory with at the end a soft landing. Upcoming milestones will be the first engine tests and controlled test flights.
Wat heb je nodig om (nog meer) impact te maken met dit initiatief? / What do you need to make (more) impact with this initiative?
The project of RISE is dependent on its partners for reliable and high-grade materials and equipment, such as manufacturing equipment and feed system components for the Phoenix engine series. This is why the team is equipped with a skilled external relations team to reach out to industry and research groups to strengthen the team’s network for current and future projects. Please contact contact@riseteam.nl to get in touch with the team if you would like to be part of RISE’s novel projects.
