In welke fase zit jouw initiatief? / In what stage is your initiative?
Uitgewerkt conceptfase
Heb je jouw initiatief al gevalideerd? / Did you validate your initiative?
Not fully, however, over the past semester, I focused on concept development, user research, and building an initial proof of concept. In the coming months, my focus will shift to validating the system, with an emphasis on two key areas: AI reaction time – Assessing whether the system can detect and predict potential dangers faster than human perception. Design validation – Testing whether the warning mechanisms are intuitive and provide clear, timely alerts for motorcyclists without causing distraction.
Meer informatie over jouw initiatief / More info about your initiative
Motorcyclists are up to twenty times more vulnerable than other road users.
As a rider myself, I’ve experienced how quickly situations can escalate, especially in busy city traffic. You are constantly alert, yet it’s still difficult to catch every hazard in time because your attention is divided among mirrors, traffic, speed, and many other things.
While riding, I began to notice patterns in traffic that often signaled an upcoming danger. Over time, I developed an intuition for when something might go wrong. That led to a breakthrough idea: what if we could use AI to share that riding experience and instinct with every motorcyclist?
Current safety systems for riders, such as ABS and traction control, are primarily reactive. They only activate once something has already gone wrong. Many existing rider assistance systems also fail to account for what the motorcyclist is seeing in the moment. There is no system today that actively thinks with the rider and provides early warnings inside the helmet before danger occurs.
In the automotive world, vehicles like Teslas already assess traffic conditions and respond intelligently. This raises a key question: why hasn’t this kind of technology reached the most vulnerable people on the road? Waiting until every vehicle has advanced safety systems will take too long. Motorcyclists deserve protection now. That’s why I want to put the solution directly with the rider, not depend on surrounding vehicles.
With MOTEX, my goal is to significantly reduce the risks motorcyclists face, promote safer riding habits, and make the experience not just safer but also more confident and enjoyable.
Wat is er anders/nieuw aan jouw idee/oplossing t.o.v. bestaande oplossingen? / What is different/new about your idea/solution compared to existing solutions??
Most existing safety systems for motorcyclists are reactive and focus on correcting errors when a situation is already on the verge of going wrong, such as ABS or traction control. Existing Advanced Rider Assistance Systems warnings are mounted on the motorcycle itself and are therefore not aligned with what the rider is actually seeing or experiencing in the moment.
MOTEX takes a different approach. It is a proactive, helmet-integrated rider assistance system that uses AI and computer vision to detect hazardous situations in real time and warns the rider before things go wrong.
Wat zijn jouw volgende stappen om het verder te ontwikkelen? / What are your next steps to develop the initiative?
In the coming period, I will be working closely with my project partner to further develop the AI system, aiming to make it faster, more accurate, and more efficient in recognizing real-time traffic situations. At the same time, I will improve the existing prototype in terms of integration, feedback mechanisms, and user experience.
I am also refining the business case: identifying the target audiences for whom the system delivers the most value, exploring a viable revenue model, and outlining a realistic path to initial market entry.
In addition, I am in discussions with organizations such as Bosch to explore the technical and strategic possibilities for collaboration or integration within broader mobility systems. These partnerships help bring MOTEX closer to real-world application and market readiness.
Finally, validation through user testing will play a central role. This includes measuring reaction times, assessing user experience, and evaluating acceptance among motorcyclists. These insights will form the foundation for further scaling and development.
Wat heb je nodig om (nog meer) impact te maken met dit initiatief? / What do you need to make (more) impact with this initiative?
To maximize the current impact of MOTEX, I need three key elements:
- Motorcyclists to user test
To validate and improve the system, I am looking to collaborate with motorcyclists who can help test MOTEX in simulated real-world conditions. Multiple factors of the design need to be measured objectively, which requires participants. If you’re a motorcyclists, near Eindhoven and interested in joining a pilot, feel free to contact us through the MOTEX LinkedIn page! - Technical and strategic partners
Collaboration with companies known for their expertise in safety systems, hardware, and embedded technologies, which can help make the system scalable, robust, and ready for broader use. - Support in business and investment
To bring MOTEX closer to market introduction, I am seeking guidance in refining the business case, understanding relevant regulations, and securing the right funding to take the next step in development.
With these building blocks, MOTEX can move from a strong technical concept to a real-world product that improves road safety and protects lives.
