Mitra
Mitra aims to make preventive healthcare accessible to all. Mitra will give you an insight into your data from your wearables with a predictive health analysis which in addition will be shared with a healthcare professional who can support you - making it easier to make changes to your lifestyle.

Heb je jouw initiatief al gevalideerd? / Did you validate your initiative?
We have talked to multiple people within the healthcare sector, including insurance companies. This gave us the first round of validation however when we finish our first prototype we will start validating by testing this prototype.

Problem statement
Currently, we are living with a cure-based healthcare system, i.e., treatment of the symptoms instead of the cause. Costs are rising on a yearly basis and more people suffer from lifestyle diseases. Whereas, in a preventive-based system, the aim is early diagnosis and prevention of disease. Lifestyle, diet and early diagnosis have a big influence on the biggest causes of death (heart diseases and cancer). Next to extending the health and life span of individuals, a preventive system also reduces healthcare costs. A U.S. study estimates the national cost savings from early diagnosis at $26 billion per year.
Our Solution
Our solution is to create the first step toward a preventive-based healthcare system, with the help of an algorithm to improve the use of smartwatches. By using the already collected data by your smartwatch (which includes sleep time, screentime, heart rate, stress level, steps taken/exercise etc) that is not being used to its full potential, Mitra will detect diseases in their early stages by analyzing that data and giving a risk profile early on to the user. In addition, this data and analysis can be used for remote preventive healthcare by letting doctors and general practitioners use it as an insight to determine when extra care is needed.
Our Mission
With the growing healthcare costs, there is a huge need to move to a more preventive system. Using the current technological advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence we can improve the health of individuals by using the data they have been generating over the past years and preventing disease.
Mitra will help us become healthier as individuals and as a society.
Wat zijn jouw volgende stappen om het verder te ontwikkelen? / What are your next steps to develop the initiative?
Currently, we are working on building our first application that can be used for user testing. We will start with creating a risk profile for Diabetes, with our end goal of helping people reduce their risk for Alzheimer’s and other lifestyle-related diseases. Both of Alzheimer’s and Diabetes diseases are metabolic and therefore very well correlated.
In September we will have finished our MVP based on Diabetes which can then be used for more user testing and data gathering. This data will be used to further develop the AI model.
Wat heb je nodig om (nog meer) impact te maken met dit initiatief? / What do you need to make (more) impact with this initiative?
Most of our focus right now is on finding the right groups of people to test and validate our prototype with. So, (medical) testing protocol is the first thing we need to gain more knowledge or advice upon. Next to that, for Mitra to have a huge impact, we mostly need to focus on lower income areas since these are the people who have the highest chance of getting caught up in lifestyle diseases. Support from foundations or municipalities could really help with that. Lastly, for the testing itself financial support could also be very useful since it will give us the ability to have a bigger and therefore more reliable test setting.
