Our mission is to help people learn and remember new words in a way that actually works. We want to make it easier for language learners to grow their vocabulary and use new words with confidence. Our app will combine smart review techniques, useful examples, and conversations in target language to turn learning into real progress.
Our potential customer is a motivated language learner, typically aged 16–45, ranging from students and self-learners to professionals preparing for work or life abroad. They might use apps like Duolingo or Anki but looking for more personalized, vocabulary-focused tool that helps them retain and use new words. They struggle with remembering vocabulary long-term and applying it in real conversations. These users value smart, adaptive learning tools and our will support spaced repetition, contextual examples, and real-life practice like chatting with LLM or a real person. Additionally, our potential customer most likely uses Android or IOS.
Wat is er anders/nieuw aan jouw idee/oplossing t.o.v. bestaande oplossingen? / What is different/new about your idea/solution compared to existing solutions??
Traditional apps often focus on generic word lists or short-term memorization without helping users truly keep words in long-term memory or use them in real life situations. There’s also a lack of tools that let learners build and review their own word lists in a smart and efficient way. On top of that, learners often don’t get enough practice using words in context.
Our solution is a smart dictionary app that helps users build their own vocabulary lists and actually remember the words over time. It uses spaced repetition technique to make learning stick, and provides clear definitions and example sentences. It also and gives users multiple ways to review and test themselves. To make learning more practical, the app will include a social feature where users can chat in the language they’re learning, which helps them with practicing words in real conversations.
Wat zijn jouw volgende stappen om het verder te ontwikkelen? / What are your next steps to develop the initiative?
- Validate the idea through early user interviews and feedback
- Conduct a research on optimal use of spaced repetition for language learning
- Build an interactive demo using iterative development with high stakeholder involvement
- Create a focused marketing strategy pinpointing the right kind of language learners
- Launch a limited pilot to gather real-world usage data
- Continuously refine the product based on feedback
Wat heb je nodig om (nog meer) impact te maken met dit initiatief? / What do you need to make (more) impact with this initiative?
We need to reach the correct audience. Audience that needs exactly this tool, not another Duolingo. Not something that sets a goal to learn a language from scratch but more of an assistant that keeps track of every word that you’ve learned and takes this knowledge into account when personalizing the revision techniques. To make an impact with this initiative, first of all, people should be properly informed about the capabilities of this tool.
Additionally, the main obstacles and risks need to be identified at the beginning phase. A major obstacle can be, for example, user engagement and retention. Many people start learning a language with excitement and it’s common for motivation to drop over time. To succeed, our app needs to keep users coming back regularly and make the learning process feel rewarding and useful.
