The idea isn't fully validated yet, but it is worth noting that poor data management and governance practices have become increasingly prevalent in numerous large companies. This is a topic that has gained significant attention to companies I have spoken to such as ASML and Vanderlande. In fact, IBM conducted a study revealing that inadequate data quality, which is a result of inadequate data management, leads to a staggering annual loss of $3.1 trillion in the U.S. economy. This loss is primarily attributed to reduced productivity, system outages, and elevated maintenance costs.

Our mission is clear: to empower businesses by providing a comprehensive solution that combines centralized data management with decentralized access. By doing so, we enable all employees to efficiently and effectively access high-quality data, enabling informed decision-making and driving business success.

Data is the lifeblood of any organization, but its widespread nature poses significant challenges. With data scattered across multiple systems and locations, accessing and managing it becomes cumbersome. Many companies have resorted to centralized data teams, but this often leads to backlogs of data requests and visualizations, resulting in delays and a lack of agility. Our solution addresses this challenge head-on.

Our hybrid data management system strikes a balance between centralized control and decentralized access. We aggregate the metadata from various data sources into a centralized location, which is then transformed into a user-friendly website. This website serves as a gateway for business units to search, request, and access specific data, all of which is conveniently stored in their personal data repository.

By centralizing the metadata of all available data sources, our system provides a comprehensive overview of the organization’s data landscape. Business units can easily search for the data they need, gaining insights into its quality, structure, and accessibility. Armed with this information, they can make informed decisions on whether to request the data, streamlining the decision-making process.

Once a business unit identifies the required data, a simple request through the website triggers our system to retrieve the data from the relevant source and transfer it to their personal data repository. Each business unit maintains their own data wardrobe, securely storing and managing their data. This approach improves data accessibility, availability, quality, integrity, and security.

Our hybrid data management system offers numerous benefits to organizations. It streamlines data access, empowering business units to easily search for and obtain the data they need. It ensures data quality and integrity by providing comprehensive metadata. Additionally, it enhances data security by granting each business unit ownership and control over their own personal data repository.

Our initiative has already gained significant recognition. We had the opportunity to present our solution to the Chief Data Officer of ASML, who was extremely intrigued and interested in our ideas in this field. Furthermore, we were finalists in the TUE contest, specifically in the prosperity category, further validating the potential of our solution.

We are confident that our solution will drive efficiency, productivity, compliance, and informed decision-making, ultimately leading to significant business growth.

With the underlying concept emerging in 2019, our competitors are still in the nascent stages. The developments within this field are recent and poised for advancements. Notably, the European market for data management and governance remains largely unexplored, presenting us with a unique opportunity. By capitalizing on this market gap, we aim to reshape the landscape and redefine the standards of data management.

One of our groundbreaking features is our unique “query-as-a-product” approach. Unlike traditional platforms that solely upload data, we go a step further by including the code used to extract value from that data. This innovation empowers business users to create their own customized versions, reducing the need for ad hoc requests to the BI team. Our platform fosters a culture of self-sufficiency, enabling users to harness the full potential of their data independently.

Moreover, as a European-established platform, we have a distinct advantage in addressing the critical aspects of GDPR compliance. In an era where data privacy and protection are paramount, we ensure that internal data requests on our platform adhere to GDPR guidelines. When someone requests an internal data table, they are required to provide a per-column justification when sensitive data is requested, which will be both automatically validated by the platform but also validated by the internal law firm of the concerned company. This will guaranteeing transparency, accountability, and compliance with data privacy regulations.

Our next steps to develop the initiative involve advancing the platform’s development. We have already reached an important milestone by delivering our first Minimum Viable Product (MVP), which is now ready to be showcased to companies.
