We are IN-DUC. We are developing a technology, in which induction works on a DC power supply without an inverter. This way, we can provide clean cooking to places where this currently is a real issue. Each year, 3.700.000 people pass in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) as a direct result of cooking on fossil fuels. This is more than deaths caused by TB, HIV and malaria combined. Times two. This shows how immense this problem really is, with people only recently starting to take notice. Besides, cooking on fossil fuels in Africa causes 1/3rd of all fossil fuels emitted by the African continent. This has to be done differently.
For this project, we are working in collaboration with the research institute TNO. With such a great partner, we know we can make this a success! Join us in our mission to rid this world of fossil fuels, and the deeply saddening deaths which come with them.
Wat is er anders/nieuw aan jouw idee/oplossing t.o.v. bestaande oplossingen? / What is different/new about your idea/solution compared to existing solutions??
Currently, DC induction does not exist. Every induction technology makes use of AC. This is crucial, as most energy in Africa is provided by microgrids which in turn are powered by solar panels. Solar panels produce DC. By enabling a direct connection to the solar panel power source, there is no need for an inverter which in turn saves costs, efficiency, space, weight and a lower likeliness of the product breaking. There is also an opportunity to attach a battery, which once again only can provide DC power. This means that there is also an opportunity for more remote areas.
We are also providing the ability to plug in your phone or lamps, for which people currently have to leave the house and pay others. This way, people are bringing in an electrical hub which can provide all the basic needs including clean cooking.
Wat zijn jouw volgende stappen om het verder te ontwikkelen? / What are your next steps to develop the initiative?
Product development and on the ground research in SSA. We have spoken to a lot of people already and are gathering renown from NGOs and charities alike, but are still developing the product. A feasible businesscase is made for this product, but that is not where our priorities lie. We can make a real impact with our tech, and with this targeted market that is what we will do.
For the product development we would also need funding of course, which is the cornerstone of any startup.
Wat heb je nodig om (nog meer) impact te maken met dit initiatief? / What do you need to make (more) impact with this initiative?
More information, more partners and more funding. We want to make as big an impact as possible, starting with SSA but later on expanding to India, South East Asia and South America where the cooking on fossil fuels is as big an issue as in SSA.
More information on our targeted market is crucial to make this work, combined with more partners who can for example further fund the project, provide information on the market, help with product development or help with the general go-to-market and market expansion. Funding is required to make it work, starting with the product development.
