To validate the edible cup we've had pilot testing at events like HAN Unexpected but also using it whenever and wherever we meet with various potential customer demographics.Of course being in some newspapers has helped us get our face to more people and already have our first few customers who are using the edible coffee cup.Because we really target two customer groups, small businesses like cafes and bigger multinational corporations we have to make sure to find the sweet spot in the middle and target both at more or less the same time.Of course the edible cup is only one product and the same process follows with more of the products that we have that we want to offer.

The Netherlands uses about 3.5 Billion single use cups a year and you can see how recycling could be challenging. Just the University that I study at uses 2.5 Million cups a year alone. This figure is just the cups, not to mention all the other single use tableware. 

That’s why we founded Edibles. Introducing you to the most sustainable way of drinking hot beverages: Edible Cups. 

These cups, being one of the many products we hope to offer, are not only edible, but most importantly biodegradable. This makes them the perfect match for Individuals and businesses that want to move towards a more sustainable world.

Currently we are looking towards expanding our inventory and business, aiming at sustainable growth for the upcoming years. With the introduction of the single-use cup ban in 2024, we expect Edibles to be the go to place for sustainable single use tableware, being able to offer alternatives to unsustainable tableware. We are currently finalising the market validation phase of the business.

Wat zijn jouw volgende stappen om het verder te ontwikkelen? / What are your next steps to develop the initiative?

Further growing our client base while introducing other products into the market in order to maximise our impact when it comes to waste reduction. To say it short, expanding the company quickly but still in a sustainable manner while taking into consideration which products work best and making sure we have solid operations which will support the balance between supply and demand.

Wat heb je nodig om (nog meer) impact te maken met dit initiatief? / What do you need to make (more) impact with this initiative?

In order to have an even bigger impact we of course need more users but this will come with time spent on Marketing and Sales to really narrow down our client profiles. Because for us this is about making the biggest impact we of course try to target big companies however it is more challenging to set something up vs smaller clients so it is all about finding the right balance between both.
