Heb je jouw initiatief al gevalideerd? / Did you validate your initiative?

Yes, I have validated my initiative through extensive research and expert feedback. My thesis research thoroughly explored the challenges in energy renovation decision-making, providing a solid theoretical basis. I also conducted market research to identify gaps and opportunities in the renovation software sector. Additionally, I developed a prototype framework and discussed the results with academics and experts in the field, who provided valuable insights confirming the relevance and feasibility of the solution. While I have not yet engaged in formal customer interviews or industry testing, these steps have laid a strong foundation for further validation.

Inspired by the precision and strategy of chess, we believe every successful renovation project starts with bold, strategic decisions. BOLD targets residential developers, project managers, and renovation specialists involved in the early design phase of energy renovation projects . These decision-makers often face a fragmented and complex decision-making process, characterized by delays, stakeholder misalignment, and an overwhelming number of renovation options. This complexity creates uncertainty and slows down project progress, making it difficult to select the best renovation strategy.

Our start-up offers a smart computational tool that brings structure and clarity to this process. By combining multi-criteria analysis with strategic scenario generation, BOLD helps users navigate economic, environmental, and social factors to quickly identify the most suitable energy renovation scenario . The tool integrates various inputs such as technical feasibility, financial viability, regulatory requirements, and social impacts like renovation nuisance.

BOLD empowers stakeholders to align their goals, reduce information overload, and accelerate decision-making, leading to faster, high-quality , and sustainable renovation outcomes. By providing a structured, data-driven framework, BOLD makes the early design phase more efficient, transparent, and collaborative, ultimately driving better investment decisions in residential energy renovations.

Renovating isn’t just about buildings — it’s about making choices that shape our future. And it all starts with one thing: a BOLD decision.

Wat is er anders/nieuw aan jouw idee/oplossing t.o.v. bestaande oplossingen? / What is different/new about your idea/solution compared to existing solutions??

BOLD stands out by focusing specifically on the early design phase of residential energy renovations—a stage where decisions are still flexible and can have the greatest impact. Most existing tools target later design or construction phases, when decisions are largely fixed, making changes more difficult and costly.

Unlike current solutions, which often have a limited focus on alternatives evaluation and a narrow scope of criteria, BOLD offers a holistic multi-criteria evaluation framework that integrates technical, economic, and regulatory factors. This approach supports balanced decision-making by considering a broad range of relevant aspects simultaneously.

Additionally, BOLD emphasizes user-friendly scenario packages rather than overwhelming users with countless options, supporting faster and more informed decisions during the early design phases. It also leverages insights from academic research and real-world pilot testing to tailor solutions that address actual project needs, which is uncommon in current market software.

BOLD also addresses common challenges such as complexity and poor usability by providing an intuitive, user-friendly interface and offers customizability and adaptability to different project contexts and user needs, overcoming fragmentation across project phases found in many existing tools.

Wat zijn jouw volgende stappen om het verder te ontwikkelen? / What are your next steps to develop the initiative?

I already have a minimum viable product (MVP) developed, which provides a solid foundation for further growth. The next step is to engage with potential customers and industry stakeholders through interviews and workshops to gather detailed feedback and better understand their specific needs and challenges. Following this, I will conduct pilot testing with real projects to validate the tool’s core features and identify areas for improvement. Concurrently, I will seek partnerships and funding opportunities to support further development and commercialization. With the necessary resources secured, I will then focus on refining and expanding the prototype by improving usability, scenario customization, and the multi-criteria evaluation framework. Additionally, I plan to enhance the tool’s capabilities by adding more decision criteria and renovation measures and integrating real-time data to make the tool dynamic and adaptable to changing conditions. Finally, I will develop a scalable software platform to make the decision-support framework accessible to a wider audience and prepare educational materials and demos to facilitate adoption and ensure a successful launch.

Wat heb je nodig om (nog meer) impact te maken met dit initiatief? / What do you need to make (more) impact with this initiative?

To maximize the impact of BOLD, I need access to direct collaboration with industry professionals and potential users to ensure the tool meets real-world needs effectively. Securing partnerships with developers, engineers, and renovation firms will enable practical pilot projects and faster adoption. Additionally, funding is essential to accelerate development, especially to expand the tool’s capabilities with more criteria, renovation measures, and real-time data integration. Access to high-quality data sources and technology platforms will improve the tool’s accuracy and responsiveness. Finally, strong marketing and educational resources are necessary to raise awareness, build trust, and encourage widespread use within the target market.
