Meer informatie over jouw initiatief / More info about your initiative

BagY is a circular solution to the growing problem of single-use plastic bags in retail. Our initiative introduces a closed-loop, deposit-return system for reusable grocery bags, similar to the successful bottle return schemes seen in the Netherlands. Customers pick up at the checkout a durable, branded bag at any participating store by paying a small deposit, which they get back when returning the bag to any location in the network.

The bags are then collected, cleaned, and redistributed, eliminating the need for disposable plastic while making sustainability convenient and accessible. Each bag also provides space for local advertising, creating a recurring revenue stream for Baggy and a unique marketing opportunity for businesses.

We’re targeting eco-conscious shoppers (especially those who often forget to bring their own bags) and retailers looking to reduce their environmental impact. By launching BagY, we’re not just replacing plastic, we’re helping establish a new norm for sustainable, zero-waste shopping.

Wat is er anders/nieuw aan jouw idee/oplossing t.o.v. bestaande oplossingen? / What is different/new about your idea/solution compared to existing solutions??

BagY is unique in combining a closed-loop, in-store deposit-return system specifically for grocery bags, along with an integrated ad-supported revenue model. This makes sustainable shopping easy for consumers, cost-effective for retailers, and scalable across stores, something that doesn’t currently exist in this form.

Wat zijn jouw volgende stappen om het verder te ontwikkelen? / What are your next steps to develop the initiative?

Our next steps are to launch a pilot program in stores and reach out to potential partners to estimate costs, revenue streams, and operational needs.

Wat heb je nodig om (nog meer) impact te maken met dit initiatief? / What do you need to make (more) impact with this initiative?

To make a greater impact, we need increased visibility, more participating stores, as well as some support to scale and implement the system effectively.
